Hi… Dear Friends,
We all definitely know that the coursebook in English Std.Xl & Xll has focused on student's ability to comprehened
English and skillfully use his linguistic ability to express in English. Today, a very vital change that has been introduced
is that a series of questions have been substituted and replaced by various activities. It would enables the evaluator to
test the learner’s comprehension skills even without the learners realizing that he is being tasted. So the changes that
are being bought about are to make the teachers more creative and to give the liberty to innovate with activities and to
go behind the wh-questions.
Activity based teaching and learning is a new concept introduced right from primary classes .This need to be continued
further at +2stage. Activity based learning has given break to the overuse of wh- questions. An activity is a piece of
classroom work that involves learners in comprehending, manipulating, producing or interacting in the target language.
According to certain accepted standards I am providing the names of activities in the question paper concerning
seen/unseen prose extract/grammar/vocabulary/poetry/Rapid Reading
A List of Suggested Activities:
A). Complex factual / Comprehension /Global understanding / interpretation and Conclusion:
1) Identify the intention of the author/Theme of the extract /mood of the characters
2) True or false
3) Sequence of sentences
4) Complete the web
5) Find the proof
6 ) Flowchart
7) Complete
8 ) Putting sentence is correct sequence
9) Choose the appropriate sentence/s summarising the passage
10) Find out the expression that are against the writer's view
11) Complete the table
12) Filling the gaps of a summary
13) Selection of the right response/s from the multiple statements
B) Vocabulary activities:
1) Synonyms
2) Antonyms
3) Contextual meaning
4) Give one word for
5) Fill in the blanks by selecting
6) Find a word from the passage having given the meaning
7) Dicourse makers /linkers
8) Word register
9) Word puzzle
10)Shades of meanings
11) Matching words with meanings
12) Using words in a meaningful sentences
13) Select a proper words/phrase to complete the sentence
lll) Testing Grammar

4) Rewrite using (article/prepositions) missing in a sentences
5) Selecting a preposition by looking at the situation

10) Describe the impact or effect of the message given in the passage on your mind
V) Creativity in Poetry:
1) Framing to continuous lines based on the theme
2) Framing two lines to match the given rhyming words
3) Rhyming lines by changing the world order
4) Compose a line on the similar situation
5) Changing the rhymes scheme
6) Framing a slogan based on the poetic concept
Vl) Rapid Reading:
A) Activity testing global understanding

2) Matching
3) Completing
4) Select the sentence from the given alternatives that describe the passage
5) Select the appropriate title and explain its significance
B) Composition based activities:
1) Convert the paragraph into dialogue /conversation
2) Converting a dialogue into a paragraph
3) Developing an imagination in the beginning or at the end as a continution
4) Gist of the extract in his/ her own words
